The Cairo Tower (Egyptian Arabic Borg El-Qāhira) is a free-standing concrete tower in Cairo, Egypt. At 187 m (614 ft).

It was the tallest structure in Africa for ten years until 1971, when it was surpassed by Hillbrow Tower in South Africa.

 

Called also as Gezira Tower because

It is located in the centre of Gezira Island in the middle of the Nile River in Zamalek district in Cairo, Egypt.

 

From its 187 meters, the Cairo tower offers the most amazing panoramic views of the Egyptian capital.

It is advised to go up to the tower’s circular observation deck in the late morning or late afternoon for the clearest views of the city.

The tower was designed by the Egyptian architect, Naoum Shebib. Its completion took 5 years, from 1956 to 1961.

Inspired by the Ancient Egyptian Architecture. Its partially open lattice-work design is intended to evoke a pharaonic lotus plant, an iconic symbol of Ancient Egypt.
